Anhanga
(ah-gnan-gah)

by Jose Alexandre Nalon with input from the Psychedelic Goblin

Description
Long regarded as avatars of Satan, the natives of the Amazon basin have long feared the Anhanga; a fear that is strongly justified. As silent as the grave, Anhanga are nonetheless seething with ill-concealed rage, snapping under the slightest provocation into a violent fury. Cruel and malicious, these black-hearted fiends are cunning and sadistic, avoided by any sensible kithain. Originally inhabiting the great Amazonian wilderness, the Anhanga have adapted extremely well to an urban existence, regarding the concrete wilderness as yet another home. Cynical and sarcastic, Anhanga are scathing and malicious to any they dislike (nearly everyone). It's safest to leave any of their remarks unanswered for a cutting reply can all too easily spur this kith to violence... What is little known however, is that lying at the core of all Anhanga is a feeling of great insecurity, and this is what drives their greatest atrocity. Deep down they crave the acceptance of the very people they often drive away. Of course, no Anhanga would ever admit such a weakness.

Appearance
Slender and lithe, the Anhanga have skin of darkest ebony. Burning crimson eyes, narrowed with malicious cunning gaze out from a diabolical face and sarcastic smile.

Seemings
Childling Anhanga are the bullies of the school, terrorising other children with threats and acts of wanton violence.

Wilder Anhanga are little better, often declaring themselves 'rulers' of a particular location (without anyone's knowledge) and sadistically punishing those unfortunates who inadvertently transgress their absurd regulations. Some people fail to survive the punishments...

Grump Anhanga are weighed heavily with fear, frustration and insecurity, directing their feelings outward in bursts of violence and sadism, hoping for a brief relief.

Lifestyle
Adaptable, the Anhanga are found throughout the classes of society, their brutal acts often unnoticed among the evils humanity inflicts on itself. Unsurprisingly, they are often drawn into 'occupations' that allow them the greatest outlet for the violent impulses, becoming thugs, hired muscle, assassins or illegal pit fighters.

Birthrights
Burning Gaze: Anhanga can release a gout of hellish chimerical flame from their eyes, searing their foes. This costs 1 Glamour point and requires a Perception (x2) roll (diff. 6) to hit. the damage dice inflicted are determined by the Anhangas Willpower (diff. 6). The range is short however, reaching only 5 meters.

Shadow Walker: By spending 1 Glamour point Anhanga can merge with any present shadow, moving through them unseen. When merged with the shadow the Anhanga cannot be harmed, or cause physical harm. They can however be harmed by chimerical weapons while merged. Only enchanted mortals and kithain have any chance of noticing Anhanga, rolling Perception + Kenning (diff. 8) in order to do so. The effects last one scene.

Frailties
Feared: Their violence and rage have done little to endear them to other kithain, and they suffer a +2 diff. penalty on any social roll except intimidation.

Low-Self Image: Difficult tasks seem that much harder to the Anhanga. Like the Flaw of the same name they suffer a 2 dice penalty in any situation they expect to fail (at the Storytellers discretion).

Rageful Fury: When threatened or angered, Anhanga become subject to frenzy. Flying into a terrible rage, they blindly attack anyone around them, friend or foe. Each turn the Anhanga must make a Willpower roll (diff. 7) in order to snap out of it. The Anhanga may spend a Willpower point at the outset to avoid the frenzy. As an advantage the Anhanga is oblivious to pain, ignoring any wound penalties while frenzying.
